As most of you who follow this blog or the Facebook page know Takehara Sensei was not able to make it to this year’s Kagami Biraki because he was recuperating from ankle replacement surgery. Tres Hoffmeister Sensei nanadan of Boulder Aikikai in show of support of Takehara Sensei graciously agreed to fill in Takehara Sensei’s slot. Marsha Turrner Sensei of Chicago Aikikai was there again to lead her half of class but this year she simply warmed us up and turned over the mat to Hoffmeister for the full duration of Keiko.
Ask anyone there and you are sure to hear about the once in a lifetime opportunity to train closely with such a talented and giving instructor. Hoffmeister Sensei made his way around the mat taking wonderful and inspiring ukemi and throwing with the softest of touches all the while with smile that lit up the room.
