Novak Sensei

Date: 3/10/2013
Place: Chicago Aikido Club
Event: Eric Novak Sensei Teaching

Class at the Chicago Aikido club with Novak Sensei started off with short and simple stretches and quickly moved into form and Idea in place of technique. Class stared with the basics of tenkan, back roll and forward roll practice. Whilst giving the explanation of how he wanted each of these exercises done he stressed the importance of a natural movement in the entire body instead of bending the hands arms in body in ways that would cause tension in the body and allow partner to have something to fight against. After warm ups we moved into the forms and ideas of the class.

Novak Senei’s class centered around the idea of natural movement in the arms and body to demonstrate this technique/ ideas were shown using one sword, two sword , one knife and two knives. The blades acting as extensions of the arms to accentuate the lines of movement, but also as a physical deterrent from holding ones hands at uncomfortable or unnatural angles
