The Chicago Aikikai will be hosting Tres Hoffmeister, 7th Dan and top student of Ikeda Shihan, for a three day seminar June 7th – 9th. Judging from the response from his surprise appearance this year’s Kagami Biraki this is not going to be a seminar to be missed. At the Kagami Biraki Hoffmeister Shihan focused on ‘quality of touch’ and responsive ukemi. Hoffmeister Shihan made his way around the mat taking ukemi for every attendee so they could feel what it was he was trying to impart to us. Frequently while demonstrating a technique he would take the role of uke rather than nage. This reversal of roles was unnerving for some of his nage’s until they made contact and felt that maybe as uke he was in as much control of the situation as nage. Or was it pure sharing?
Hoffmeister Shihan is also one of the instructors for this year’s Summer Camp In The Rockies.
- Friday: 6pm-8pm
- Saturday: 10am-noon & 3pm-5pm
- Sunday: 10am-12pm
Cost for the seminar is $120
